Microchanneling is an excellent skin-rejuvenating treatment that reduces fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, and stretch marks. Once healed, you’ll have smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Although similar to the more well-known microneedling, we feel microchanneling is superior because the stamping device provides more control to reduce the skin tears that rolling devices cause. Although these tears are small, you don’t want unnecessary damage.
While this treatment is safe for most people with different skin types and tones, it’s not suitable for everybody. People who have a history of keloid scarring, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, blood clotting problems, and autoimmune disorders should discuss alternative treatments. Other conditions that should prevent or delay microchanneling include bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes, active acne, and open lesions.
Microchanneling is also not a suitable treatment for moles, warts, or actinic (solar) keratosis.
For those who can have this treatment, following all pre- and post-procedure instructions is crucial to receive maximum benefits and heal safely without unwanted side effects.
Immediately after your microchanneling treatment, your skin will likely look pink or red. You may also experience a slightly uncomfortable burning sensation similar to a mild sunburn. Some people also report skin tightness and mild swelling for up to 24 hours.
As your skin begins to heal, you may notice some sloughing or peeling. Although uncommon, some people also develop mild acne or milia in the treatment area. These are entirely normal reactions that will resolve on their own. However, you must not pick or peel your skin or any bumps that may arise, as this can lead to infection or scarring.
You will also likely notice tiny red dots where the needles entered the skin. These may be visible for up to 72 hours but are easily coverable with makeup if necessary.
Finally, your skin may feel drier than usual due to minor water loss from the open micro-wounds. Applying gentle, non-irritating lotion or cream will help alleviate this common side effect.
