While both treatments address skin concerns on the back, a Back Peel focuses on deeper exfoliation and skin regeneration through the use of a professional chemical peel. A Back Facial typically involves cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and a mask for a more immediate surface-level refresh.
Anyone can benefit from a back facial! It’s especially helpful if you experience back acne (bacne), clogged pores, dry or rough patches, or simply want smoother, more radiant skin. It’s also a great choice before special back-baring events, vacations, or as part of your regular skincare routine.
However, if you are recovering from a sunburn or have skin lesions from injuries or acute or chronic conditions, please call us to discuss your skin health before coming in for treatment. While Back Facials are generally very safe and effective, some of the products used could cause discomfort on vulnerable skin.
24 hours before your appointment, do not shave, use hair-removing products, or self-tanners. Avoid exfoliating products and dermatological products, such as those containing ingredients like retinoids and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), for at least 48 hours before your treatment. Protect your skin from heavy sun exposure for two weeks before your chemical peel.
For the first few days after treatment, treat your skin with care. Cleanse using only soft washcloths, gentle products that don’t cause irritation, and lukewarm water. Avoid swimming and high heat, such as from hot showers, hot tubs, and saunas, for the first 3-7 days. As much as possible, try to avoid sweating until the peeling stops, as sweat can become trapped under loosening skin. Continue to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing process. Do not pick, scratch, or peel your skin while it is peeling and healing. This can lead to infections and scarring.

After a Back Peel, it’s normal to experience mild tenderness and discomfort in the first few days after your peel. As the skin starts to flake, you may also feel slight itchiness or irritation; however, it is essential not to scratch or pick at it. Because it can take up to two weeks to thoroughly peel and heal, be sure to plan accordingly if you are preparing for a special event.
