Botox and Dermal Filler Pre-Treatment Instructions

Botox and Dermal Filler Pre-Treatment Instructions

Two of our most age-defying and beauty-enhancing treatments are Botox Injections and Dermal Fillers.

Botox works by relaxing the muscles under your skin to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Cosmetically, it works best in the areas where the natural movement of your face causes noticeable wrinkles, such as your forehead, frown lines, bunny lines, and crow’s feet.

Dermal fillers use natural ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid, that are safely absorbed by the body. They are excellent for adding volume and shape to lips or areas that have lost definition due to fat loss or age. Other than lips, common treatment areas include the cheeks, under-eye areas, nasolabial folds, and jawline.

While both FDA-approved treatments are generally very safe, you should follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions to get the best results and avoid any potential negative side effects.

Botox and Filler Pre-Treatment Instructions:

7 Days Before

  • Inform your clinician of your medical history and all medications you take, including antibiotics and blood pressure medications, such as Coumadin, Plavix, and other blood thinners.
  • To avoid bruising, stop taking anti-inflammatory, blood-thinning medications and pain relievers, such as Tylenol, Advil, and Motrin, if it is safe and possible for you to do so.
  • Avoid the following vitamins and supplements: Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Ginger, Cayenne, Licorice, Flax Seed Oil, and COQ10.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear sunscreen.
  • Stop waxing, bleaching, tweezing, and using face scrubs and hair removal products on the areas to be treated.
  • Avoid using Alpha Hydroxy Acids higher than 10%, Retinal, and Retinal-A.

1-4 Days Before

  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • If you normally bruise easily, consider taking Arnica Montana, an oral homeopathic medication, several days before your treatment to help promote quicker healing and minimize bruising and swelling.
  • If you have a history of cold sores (Perioral Herpes), you may be prescribed a medication that you should begin the day before or day of your treatment.
  • Stay well hydrated both before and after treatment. Not only does proper hydration support your general wellness and skin health, but dermal fillers attract and bind to water to add volume to your skin.
  •

Other Important Information Before Treatment

  • You should be in good overall health and feel well on the day of your treatment. If you are not feeling well, call us as early as possible to reschedule.
  • Do not use Botox or dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use Botox if you are allergic to eggs or any of its ingredients.
  • You should not use Botox if you suffer from any neurological disorders.
  • You cannot receive Botox or dermal fillers if you have an active skin infection. If you do, please contact us as soon as possible to reschedule your treatment.
  • It is not recommended to receive Botox treatments less than 90 days apart.
  • Because bruising and swelling are the most common side effects of Botox and dermal fillers, we recommend scheduling your appointment at least 2 weeks before an important event.
  • Schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks following your treatment.
