Sublative Skin Resurfacing Pre- and Post-Procedure Instructions

Sublative Skin Resurfacing Pre- and Post-Procedure Instructions

Sublative Skin Resurfacing is one of the most powerful facial treatments available. It can provide almost facelift-like results without the cost or recovery time of surgery.

Our skin resurfacing treatment uses radiofrequency energy to cause microdamage to your skin, leading to an increase in collagen production and cellular regeneration. This process reduces the appearance of fines lines and wrinkles, sun damage, scars, and age spots.

To make sure you get the best results without any adverse side effects, please follow all pre- and post-procedure instructions for Sublative Skin Resurfacing.

Pre-Procedure Instructions for Sublative Skin Resurfacing

  • Arrive to your appointment with clean skin; avoid or remove lotions, creams, serums, and makeup before your treatment.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, begin taking antiviral medications at least 2 days before treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning lotions or creams on the treatment area(s) for 2-4 weeks before treatment.
  • Wear a broad spectrum SPF 30 or more on the treatment area before and after laser treatment.
  • If the treatment area has dense hair, please closely shave the area immediately before your appointment.
  • Please disclose all medications to your technician before your treatment.
  • You must discontinue Isotretinoin products for 6 months before treatment.
  • Discontinue using Hydroquinone, Retin-A, Retinols, Glycolics, Salicylics, and other similar irritants for at least 3 days before treatment.
  • You may need to stop using other oral or topical photosensitive medications or treatments (such as other retinoids, some antibiotics, and St. John’s Wort) for 10 days to 6 months, depending on the medication. Medications that cause light sensitivity can lead to unwanted side effects from laser or light therapy.

Post-Procedure Instructions for Sublative Skin Resurfacing

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and makeup during the day of your treatment.
  • DO NOT wash your face the day or night of your treatment. You may resume a gentle skincare regimen the following day.
  • Avoid sweating, saunas, swimming pools, lakes, or oceans for at least 24 hours after your appointment.
  • Do not use exfoliating scrubs or brushes for at least 48 hours after laser treatment.
  • If you experience discomfort, redness, or swelling, you may apply a cool compress to reduce symptoms.
  • Wear SPF 30 or more sunscreen every day following your treatment.
  • DO NOT pick, pull, scratch, or scrub flaking skin. This can cause damage that may lead to infection, discoloration, or scarring. Instead, allow your skin to turn over naturally.

What to Expect After Sublative Skin Resurfacing

After your treatment, you may experience redness and mild swelling and discomfort similar to a sunburn. You can treat these symptoms with a cold compress, and they typically go away within 24-48 hours.

During the next 2-5 days, many people’s skin becomes dry and flaky as the top layer begins to slough off. Tiny pinpoint dark spots or scabs typically develop, but they are easily covered with makeup, if desired. These expected spots will also fade as your skin regenerates.

Some clients see almost immediate results, while others won’t see significant improvement for 3-6 months. Collagen production takes time, but even one treatment is enough to see noticably younger, healthier-looking skin.
